Day 212

Katie's tummy was hurting again last night.  I always feel so helpless when that happens, but we do what we can to make her feel better.  Since Katie is only three, she doesn't look in the mirror much.  However, last night as Katie was standing on a stool, facing a mirror so I could brush her teeth, she saw her reflection, and she got an astonished look on her face.  (Then she said one of the funniest things she has said yet).  Very emphatically she said, "My hair is dirty!!"  Scott and I looked at each other and tried not to laugh.  I told her, "No Katie, your hair is not dirty, it is just growing in dark."  Scott explained to her that her hair was not going to be blond anymore, but that her hair was going to be darker now - like Conner's, Mommy's and Daddy's.  Then she got a big smile on her face.  Like I said before, I am glad she has hair growing in...but it is a little sad for me that her hair will be different than what it would have been, because of the cancer and chemo.  I am sure more things than just her hair have changed because of the cancer and chemo - her hair is just an outward show of that.  But changes are changes, and hair is hair, we'll take it all as it comes.  We are glad her hair is growing in.
"We are inclined to view our own personal misfortunes through the distorted prism of pessimism.  We feel abandoned, heartbroken, alone.  If you find yourself in such a situation, I plead with you to turn to our Heavenly Father in faith.  He will lift you and guide you.  He will not always take your afflictions from you, but He will comfort and lead you with love through whatever storm you face." (Thomas S. Monson,"Looking Back and Moving Forward," Ensign, May 2008, 90).
