Day 213

Katie had a rough night last night - a lot of whimpering and moaning.  She is sleeping late this morning. Hopefully she will feel better when she wakes up.
Katie is as sweet as any girl could be.  She always has a big smile on her face.  I love how naturally happy she is.  Katie likes to spread her happiness.  She does all she can to make others happy.  Sometimes I worry she feels it's her responsibility to make the people around her happy.  She wants to please people - not so she can get something out of it - she just wants to please people so they will feel happy.  - I don't want her to take that on, and feel like she responsible for other people's happiness.  But I am glad she is so good natured and joyful!
Last night Scott & I watched a movie, "Nicholas Nickleby," based on classic by Charles Dickens.  Towards the end of the movie, the heroin says, "I am tired of being strong," To which Nicholas replies, "As am I.  Weakness is tiring, but strength is exhausting!"  Scott and I looked at each other and laughed, because we identified so deeply with those sentiments.  There is another quote at the end of the movie that I liked.  "In every life, no matter how full or empty one's purse, there is tragedy.  It is the one promise life always fulfills.  Thus happiness is a gift, and the trick is not to expect it, but to delight in it when it comes - and to add to other people's store of it."  I personally have found that happiness is not a constant in life, but it is something that comes and goes in moments.  It is important to recognize and prize those moments when they come.

  1. I needed that last quote today. Thanks, and I hope Nathan's excited for next week! This will come up as Brad, but it's actually Jenny.

  2. I don't check on your blog as often as I used to but when I do I am always uplifted. Isn't that our job - to uplift you? You, Scott, Conner and little sweet Katie are amazing. Thank you for teaching US to be more grateful as we go through everyday life.
