Day 24

     Nathan is home from the hospital and I am on antibiotics, so we are moving in a better direction! =)  As Scott mentioned, Katie's hair is rapidly falling out now, so mommy and Katie both got a trim.  Katie is now sporting a "bob".  This was a first step for us with the whole hair thing.  I am sure a shorter hairdo will be coming...well, I guess bald is coming, but before then, a shorter style.  I was told toddlers don't mind loosing their hair - I guess someone should have told Katie that!
     Scott and I are kind of in the "newborn fog".  You know that fog that comes from a lack of REM sleep?  We haven't gotten a full nights sleep since this all began.  It definitely reminds me of how I felt when we had a new baby, just without the new baby.  Instead of the baby, it's cancer and steroids - same result of fogginess though.  In a way, Katie has reverted back to a newborn.  She wakes throughout the night crying, needing to be changed, saying she is hungry, screaming (without being able to tell you what's wrong) and not being able to walk.  Today I asked her if she would walk a few steps for me and she told me, "I can't walk".  That about broke my heart!  I told her she can walk and that she would be able to walk again soon.  She is upset by all that has happened to her.  She does understand - everything...well, except why this is happening to her.  Katie is smart and she is aware.
     A few years ago, together as a family, we picked a  scripture that we felt best suited our family's needs at that time.  We were to use this scripture as a reminder throughout the year.  That scripture has been a great source of comfort and strength to us and has remained our family scripture, not just for that year, but every year since.  The scripture is: 1 Peter 1:7 "That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ".  Scott says that if the trial of our faith is much more precious than gold, then, (he jokes) we are going to be really "rich" in the next life!  =)
     I also like the scriptures in 1 Peter 2: 19 - 25 "For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
"For what glory is it, if , when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
"For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
"Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
"Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously;
"Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
"For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls."
     Today I am glad for seasons, because I know that this "season" too shall pass.  We are grateful for your love, comments and support!  Your comments help to strengthen and encourage us each day.  We continue to seek to find joy daily!

  1. I found your blog through Mary at Redo 101 and I was just so touched of your journey with your baby girl. As the mother of four girls I can only imagine what you are facing and I just pray your baby is healed and and feeling better soon. Poor thing. I cannot imagine what you must be feeling as her mom. Please continue to share and I pray for good news and reports on her recovery.

  2. Just a thought... we played a game with the vacuum cleaner when Josh started losing his hair. He was sick of having his short hairs stick to him so we would "vacuum" him (with a hand adapter of course). He thought it was funny to be just like a rug! You gotta have a sense of humor. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. If there's anything we can do to help, just call.
